Welcome!
Hi. My name is Michelle Boudreau. I am a FDK teacher at St. Stephen Catholic School in Stittsville Ontario. I have been teaching for over 10 years, teaching kindergarten for 9, and this is my third year in the FDK program.
When I first began my journey in the FDK universe, I must admit, that I was a bit skeptical. It took me about 5 months to fully comprehend that the students were actually learning, and not just 'playing' all day. It all came together for me when I read the book "Authentic Childhood" and I could see what the book was describing was happening in my own class. Learning had been happening from day one; it was me who could not see it. Once I opened my eyes, stopped and took the time to listen to the children's observations and conversations, I was amazed what had been happening right under my nose! This is when we transformed our learning environment to reflect a more natural, Reggio-inspired one that acted as a tool to encourage inquiries and cross-curricular learning.
This blog is primarily a vehicle to help me document my own journey in the FDK program and hopefully share some of my learning with other FDK teachers who are on their own journey of wonder!
